WHAT WE DO!

John E. Jacobs American Legion Post 68 of Leland, NC

Member Rick Rogers has represented Post 68 by hosting events, birthday parties and Military Branch recognition at the Brunswick Cove Living Center in Leland NC. Over the last few months Post 68 members have been busy:

Oct 13, 2023 – The American Legion John E. Jacobs American Legion Post was given a brand new Hoveround Teiknique XHD power chair to be presented to a worthy veteran in the Leland area. Marine and Air Force veteran William Husser to receive the Power wheelchair to move around the Living Center. Alice Dare, the Cove’s Administrator, stated, “thank you to the family that donated the wheelchair and she’s very grateful that the American Legion Post 68 chose the Cove to receive it.” Veteran William Husser said, ” I’m so proud to receive this, you can’t even imagine how happy I am. This will make my life so much easier. Thank you.” The Manager of Lowe’s in Leland, Nathan Ferguson, provided a new battery for the electric wheelchair.

Nov. 13 at 2 pm – Post 68 members went to the Cove and conducted a birthday party celebrating two of the veterans in the facility. Post 68 member Jim Zelinski and his committee have put together goody bags for the veterans at the party.  At the party, Mr. Husser met and thanked Nathan for Lowes contribution of the battery for his wheelchair.

Additionally, the John E. Jacobs American Legion Post 68 members are part of the Cape Fear Men’s group “Pinning Team”, which honors veterans in front of family and friends. The Veteran is Pinned and issued a certificate recognizing their service. During the presentation they review and discuss his time in the service. In many cases this would be the first time the family and friends become aware of the veteran’s contribution to the protection of the United States of America.

On Monday November 6, Lane Adair and John Hacker, members of John E. Jacobs American Legion Post 68 and Mike Hamby were present at a pinning ceremony with other members of the Cape Fear Men’s group at the Life Care Living Center in Wilmington, NC. The White Shirt Group of four (4) Army Veterans honoring another Army Vet before he moves on. He was surrounded by his wife, sister and 3 healthy boys. The family were very grateful that their family members were being honored in this way.

Finally, On Dec. 18 at 2pm Post 68 members and spouses will be sponsoring a Christmas party with presents and baked goods for the veterans at Brunswick Cove.
