On a recent wintry morning in January 2022, several members of Leland’s American Legion John E. Jacobs Post 68 conducted a Leland-area sweep of homeless sites to try to identify veterans who might need assistance. The Legion members, led by Commander John Hacker (pictured below), visited four known sites and were able to identify and work with one veteran from one of the sites. The Post conducts area homeless sweeps annually as part of its commitment to find and improve the welfare of community veterans.
