On Friday, August 23, 2024, representatives from John E. Jacobs, American Legion Post 68 Leland, and Richard H. Stewart Post 543 St James presented checks totaling $2,500 to the Veterans Smiles Foundation (VSF). The presentation to David McCracken, VSF Founder, was at the East Carolina University Dental Clinic during its dental assistance day for low-income veterans. Both Legion Posts have made similar donations to the VSF over the last several years.
Under the Department of Veterans Affairs criteria for dental care, it is estimated that only 15 percent of veterans qualify for dental care at a VA facility. The procedures completed at the ECU Clinic on August 23 were free to the participants, thanks to generous donations from a variety of veteran support organizations in Brunswick County. The annual event provides a unique opportunity for eligible low-income veterans to receive needed dental care at little or no cost.
Donations to increase the veteran patient care fund are always welcome and crucial for continuing these services. To learn more about VSF, visit https://vetsmiles.org/about/. Donations should be sent to VSF, 104 South White Street, Suite 146, Wake Forest, NC 27587, via check or money order payable to VSF.
