Under sunny skies and temperatures in the mid-90s, the John E. Jacobs American Legion Post 68 Color Guard kicked off the annual Magnolia Greens July 4th Parade. Spectators enthusiastically greeted Post members as they walked the nearly mile-long route, handing out small American flags. Motorcyclists from the Legion’s Riders followed, along with vehicles carrying Leland Mayor Brenda Bozeman and Town Council members. The parade terminated at the Magnolia Greens Community Center, where VFW Post 12196 led the community in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Post 68’s monthly meetings are held every third Thursday at 6 pm in the Blossoms Restaurant Banquet Room. The meeting is preceded by dinner at 4:30 pm in the restaurant for those so inclined. The July 18th meeting marks the installation of the Post’s first female Commander, Bea Frost, during the installation of Officers. Jim Torr, District 9 Commander, will conduct the installation ceremony. Veterans and active-duty members of all Service branches in the Leland area are welcome to attend.
